The Canal Street Ferry has been in continuous operation since 1827. There have been many attempts to eliminate the ferry and the Algiers Point Association - along with Friends of the Ferry - has led the fight to protect the Algiers ferry service every time.
The ferry service to and from Canal Street (just blocks from the French Quarter and Central Business District) runs every day from 6 a.m. until midnight carrying pedestrians and vehicles. Vehicles pay a $1 round-trip fee and pedestrians can ride the ferry free of charge.

Take the Crescent City Connection Bridge westbound across the Mississippi River. Take the first exit General DeGaulle, and then the eastbound option (right). Take the first left onto Shirley Drive. Follow until it ends at Federal City. Turn Left and follow to Whitney. Turn left at Opelousas. In about 1/2 mile, you will see the WELCOME TO ALGIERS POINT sign. Turn right to enter the neighborhood.
